Ultra Electronics, 3eTI Enhances Layer 3 Crypto Device with FIPS 140-2 Validation

Rockville, MD (September 9, 2014) – Ultra Electronics, 3eTI®, a leading provider of military-grade, cyber- secure network solutions for critical information systems, infrastructure and industrial automation, today announced FIPS 140-2 level 2 validation for the EtherGuard, the industry-dominant endpoint security device enhancing 3eTI’s certified machine-to-machine (M2M) security products.

The EtherGuard crypto appliance now extends FIPS-validated security out to network endpoints and provides firewall and deep packet inspection (DPI) for critical applications operating at the network edge. Operators of critical infrastructure, banking, finance, and industrial networks will benefit from EtherGuard’s low-cost, easy configuration, and ability to retrofit legacy systems with state-of-the-art cyber protection. The hardware-based VPN security appliance has extremely low-latency and is protected with high-grade encryption for optimized security and reliable operations.

EtherGuard provides impenetrable point-to-point or point-to-multipoint data communications security at the network layer. Using proprietary DarkNode® technology, the EtherGuard expands cyber secure protection over the Internet to provide a more scalable network for added value in end device high-speed encryption.

“This validation demonstrates our continuing commitment to leading the industry in best-of-breed security solutions that protect critical networks,” said Benga Erinle, President, 3eTI. “We care deeply about rising costs for cyber-hardened networks, and are proud to help prolong the life of legacy systems through validated crypto appliances that provide the easiest bolt-on security.”

EtherGuard supports certificate-based 802.1X port authentication protocol that simplifies the device authentication inherent in a network’s M2M communications. When installed with endpoint devices such as a PLC (programmable logic controller), ATM or card printer that have no built-in security, EtherGuard will authenticate and validate all traffic to ensure that information is reliably transmitted and is unaltered. EtherGuard plugs a cyber vulnerability by providing a device with the same level of protection as a PC that is guarded and controlled in a network.
